congregation of faith
Saint Mary is a faith community of the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh. Our missionary history of evangelization provided the seed for more than a century of vibrant growth and stable, active membership. Following the teaching of Jesus Christ and the example of the Blessed Mother, the people of Saint Mary strive to meet the spiritual needs of the parish through the celebration of the sacraments, continued evangelization, education and service to the parishioners and the community.
There are many ways that you can serve the church at Saint Mary. Adults can serve by volunteering as a Lector or Eucharistic Minister for weekend Masses. Children can serve by volunteering as an Altar Server once they've made their First Holy Communion. We are always looking for volunteers to help with the following: Legion of Mary, Lenten Fish Fry, or Activity Committee. Maybe you wouldn't mind being an Usher or a Greeter once a month for our weekend Masses. If you have a talent that you would like to share with us, or would like to serve by volunteering some of your time for any of the groups or areas listed above, please contact the Parish Business Office at 412-221-1560. We will be so happy hear from you.
Saint Mary Parish
There's a particular good feeling one gets when coming to our church. From the moment you drive into the parking lot, there's a sense of "coming home." Entering the church, the ushers and greeters welcome you, and you feel they are sincerely happy to see you. You find your "seat"--we all seem to have our own unofficial assigned seat--the special place we sit every week. You say hello to those seated around you, and while you may not know their names, they are family--your church family. We hear the familiar tinkling of the bells welcome our celebrant. We stand, sit and kneel. We reverently recite prayers and listen to God's Word being spoken by our Pastor. All of these rituals bring a sense of piety. The highlight of the Mass is when we receive the Eucharist and at the closing of the Mass, we hear our Pastor's blessing to us: "Go in peace to love and serve the Lord." What a wondrous blessing! We are given the gift of peace. It's very good to be Catholic. It's like coming home.
